Big dreams
When I was a little girl my dad told me to dream big.Of course he added the part where he said dreams come true, so i grew up and dreamed really huge dreams and visibly they weren't coming true. So I sat back and then remembered that day when my dad was talking to me I choose to do selective listening. I did not want the hard part of having to work for it.So I delightfully blocked out the that part .Someone should have slapped me and reminded me that toiling hard and smart would get me my dreams.
So now i feel I have reached a point where I have to start moulding my dreams ranging from which is achievable and time manageable. My reasons though vague seem to make sense to me. I feel like in the next years am going to be crowded with school and possibly marriage and kids and that happens to be for a lifetime.
A friend of mine assured me how that is very shallow of me and reminded me how I will regret pursuing my dreams later.
Lets face facts, most of us are happy having a job to go to 6days a week and a salary end of month other than pursuing a career which doesn't pay and leaves you wondering where your rent money is going to come from.
Also from birth we are pumped to believe dreams are extra co-curricular. Biology, Chemistry, History , Geography will take you far..... the rest not really and the thing is the success rate of those who have pursued their dreams and succeeded is not encouraging enough for parents to give their kids support.
Lets not forget your parents dreams for you before you are born leave very little room for you to have your own.
Of course unless you are Stephen Kiprotich and win an Olympic medal or your Juliana Kanyomozi and manage to win a Kora. I suggest you dream realistically.
Funny enough as we grow older so do our dreams......... When I was young I wanted a Fiat car so bad and 15years later i would kill for an Audi. My point here is I've always wanted a car but the car changed and so do dreams.
Also you have to know your potential in the dream you are aspiring to achieve.... you can't convince me that you will make it as a doctor when clearly biology and chemistry are not your strong points. If your are good at history and literature see what options or doors that opens for you.
so all this ranting is to say am dreaming realistically and so should you
